Preparations for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) are already in full swing for several manufacturers. While Ferrari tested a prototype of its further developed 499P at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Peugeot also conducted test drives with a new evolutionary stage of the 9X8 at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet.
Ferrari has been fielding the 499P in the Hypercar class since 2023 and has already celebrated several major successes with the prototype, including three consecutive overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as well as the 2025 Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships. For the 2027 season, the Scuderia is working on a more extensive upgrade of the car, after having made mostly minor adjustments in recent years.
During test drives in Monza, the prototype was seen with a camouflage livery. Observers noticed, among other things, a revised rear wing with separate wing elements and a redesigned front end of the car. Ferrari has not yet released official technical details.
Peugeot is also working intensively on the next development step of its hypercar. The French manufacturer sent the revised 9X8 onto the track for the first time at the Circuit Paul Ricard and released its own first teaser image of the vehicle. Clear changes to the front end and aerodynamics are visible on it. Although the new 9X8 continues to be developed according to LMH regulations, its appearance seems significantly closer to the LMDh vehicles of the competition.

The Hypercar class will continue to grow in the coming years. In addition to the current eight manufacturers, McLaren and Ford will also enter the top class of the World Endurance Championship starting in the 2027 season. Consequently, the development pressure is high to launch competitive vehicles in time.
