Toyota ended the 6 Hours of Fuji with a surprising home victory. Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and local star Ryo Hirakawa finished in the Toyota GR010 Hybrid after 203 laps with just 0.591 seconds lead The Alpine A424 driven by Jules Gounon and Victor Martins completed the podium with the BMW #15 M Hybrid V8 driven by Kevin Magnussen, Raffaele Marciello and Dries Vanthoor.
At first, everything looked like a double victory for Alpine. The two A424s dominated the race for long stretches and were in the lead until the final phase. However, an accident in the LMGT3 class around an hour before the end triggered another safety car phase and completely reset the cards once again.
At the last pit stop, Alpine decided to complete both cars together, rather than strategically favouring one of the cars. This cost the team valuable time. Toyota took advantage of the opportunity and took the lead. Victor Martins managed to close to Hirakawa to within 0.591 seconds in the final phase, but found no way past. The second Alpine with Charles Milesi and Ferdinand Habsburg finished the race in fourth place.
For Toyota, it was the tenth home win in Fuji and the first success on the Japanese circuit since 2023.
