1993 begann in Le Mans eine neue Ära, nachdem die legendäre Gruppe C nur noch ein Schatten ihrer selbst war. Die Funktionäre des Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), allen voran Alain Bertaut, erkannten die Zeichen der Zeit und öffneten das 24-Stunden-Rennen von Le Mans nun auch für GT-Rennwagen, denen die Zukunft gehören sollte.

A new era began at Le Mans in 1993, after the legendary Group C had become a mere shadow of its former self. The officials of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), led by Alain Bertaut, recognized the signs of the times and opened up the 24 Hours of Le Mans to GT racing cars, which were to be the future.
