In 1994, the ADAC Super Tourenwagen Cup was held for the first time in Germany according to the international 2-liter Class 2 regulations. Numerous manufacturers and teams were involved as early as the inaugural season. Audi and BMW were among the key protagonists from the very beginning.
The Audi 80 quattro Class 2 Super Touring seen here was based on the Audi 80 B4 sedan and was driven by Hans-Joachim „Strietzel“ Stuck for SMS Schmidt Motorsport. The 2.0-liter, 16-valve naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine produced around 300 hp. At the end of the season, BMW driver Johnny Cecotto secured the championship title. Stuck finished ninth in the overall standings. However, at the season finale at the Nürburgring on September 25, 1994, where this photo was taken, Stuck retired after just three laps.
