Proton Competition will not field a Porsche 963 in the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) in the 2026 season. As the team announced, intensive discussions in recent weeks have not yielded any results.
The background is the changed framework conditions following the withdrawal of Porsche Penske Motorsport from the FIA WEC. Proton Competition subsequently sought an opportunity to start with two Porsche 963s. However, an agreement for a private car deployment could not be reached.
Team owner Christian Ried thanked the involved partners and supporters in a statement for their commitment during the negotiations. At the same time, he regrets that the team will not be represented by the 963 in the FIA WEC or at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2026.
Proton Competition fielded a Porsche 963 in the Hypercar class in 2025, achieving several notable race results. The striking F.A.T. design also made the car a popular subject for fans and photographers.
Ried also highlights the support of partners such as Ferdi Porsche and F.A.T., Mustang Sampling, and Ken and Brenda Thompson. ACO and LMEM also strengthened the team until the end to enable them to remain in the championship.
The decision exclusively concerns the planned 963 deployment for 2026. Other programs with Porsche cars remain unchanged. As usual, Proton Competition will review and re-evaluate its deployment plans before each season.
