BMW begins celebrations for the anniversary of its Art Car Collection.
Team WRT returns to Mount Panorama Circuit this weekend. After their double victory at the 2025 12-Hour Race, the team is once again competing in the traditional endurance classic.
Ahead of the 2026 season, BMW M Motorsport has unveiled not only Team WRT’s driver lineup but also a special design concept. One of the two BMW M4 GT3s entered in the series will feature a special livery inspired by the BMW Art Car #8. That vehicle was designed by Australian artist Ken Done.
The replica of the historic design will be featured on the BMW M4 GT3 with starting number 32. The vehicle will be driven by Jordan Pepper, Kelvin van der Linde, and Charles Weerts. The special livery is part of the global activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the BMW Art Car Collection. Since its inception in 1975, numerous BMW racing cars have been designed by internationally renowned artists.
Ken Done explained in connection with the project that for his original design, strong colors and dynamic shapes in particular had inspired him to visually represent movement and speed. The Mount Panorama Circuit was a fitting setting for this.
The original BMW Art Car by Ken Done was created in 1989. It was based on a BMW M3 Group A, with which Jim Richards won the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1987. The current tribute therefore connects to a historical reference in Australian motorsport.
Another anniversary is coming up in 2026: 40 years earlier, the BMW M3 was first introduced. Since 1986, the model has established itself over several generations as a sporty vehicle in both street and racing.
Its competition debut will be celebrated by the Art Car tribute at the Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour, which will take place from February 13-15, 2026, on the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales.
With the combination of the BMW Art Car Collection, the M3 anniversary, and an internationally renowned endurance race, BMW M Motorsport is continuing its activities at the intersection of art and motorsport.
