Munich – The Swiss team Emil Frey Racing is planning another entry in the DTM for the 2026 season and is relying on a modified driver lineup. Joining the team is Italian Matteo Cairoli, who is set to pilot a Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo.
Cairoli has many years of experience in international motorsport. Among other things, he competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship and was part of the winning team at the 24h Nürburgring ADAC race in 2021.
The second Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo will be driven by the Dutchman Thierry Vermeulen. For Emil Frey Racing, it is the fourth season in the DTM. According to the team, they have been able to achieve a total of six race wins in recent years.
Cairoli has been active in various international racing series for more than a decade. In initial statements, he expressed a positive view of the new challenge, emphasizing that both the DTM and the car are new territory for him. Accordingly, his initial focus is on getting up to speed quickly.
Vermeulen has been driving for Emil Frey Racing in the DTM since 2023. In the past season, he achieved three podium finishes and secured two pole positions. He is also optimistic about the upcoming season, pointing to the intensive preparation during the winter break.
With the Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo, the Italian manufacturer is launching an evolved version of its GT3 car. The changes include, in particular, aerodynamic adjustments and further technical revisions.
Team Principal Lorenz Frey-Hilti sees the 2026 season as shaped by several innovations, including a revised vehicle package, new tires, and the integration of a new driver into the team.
