Volkswagen R is returning to the Nordschleife in 2027 with a spectacular project: the performance brand is developing an all-wheel-drive Golf R 24H together with Max Kruse Racing for deployment in the 24h race at the Nürburgring. The project is being launched to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Volkswagen R.

With its new race car, Volkswagen R wants to highlight its motorsport roots more strongly than ever. A.
The Golf R 24H is based on the current Golf R and is specifically developed for the demands of the Nordschleife. Volkswagen is once again relying on the collaboration with Max Kruse Racing. Team co-founder Benjamin Leuchter plays a central role, being closely involved in the tuning of sporty Volkswagen models as a development and test driver.
After several years with the Golf GTI Clubsport, a new chapter begins for Volkswagen at the Eifel classic. The project is intended not only to demonstrate the capabilities of Volkswagen R in competition but also to serve as a development platform under real racing conditions.
Volkswagen R deliberately references its own history: Since the debut of the Golf R32 in 2002, the „R“ has stood for particularly powerful models with a close connection to motorsport. For the brand, the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is considered the ideal stage to prove performance, technology, and motorsport DNA.
