Mercedes-AMG has won the 2026 Bathurst 12 Hours, claiming victory in the Intercontinental GT Challenge for the first time since December 2023. The Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing car with drivers Maro Engel, Mikael Grenier and Maxime Martin prevailed after a flawless performance and a consistently implemented race strategy.
The race progression of the winning car is particularly noteworthy: the trio started from 29th on the grid and was able to work its way up continuously over the course of the race. According to official race information, this success represents a new record, as no car has ever won the race from a starting position lower than eleventh. It is also Maro Engel’s first overall victory at the Bathurst 12 Hours, while Mercedes-AMG has recorded its fourth success overall at this event.
Second place went to the High Class Racing team with the Porsche 911 GT3 R and drivers Dorian Boccolacci, Anders Fjordbach and Kerong Li. This team also showed a strong fightback from 30th on the grid and crossed the finish line just 1.006 seconds behind the winning car. The team also won the Bronze Cup classification.
The podium was completed by Team WRT with the BMW M4 GT3 and drivers Augusto Farfus, Raffaele Marciello and Valentino Rossi in third place overall.
The race on the Mount Panorama Circuit was characterized by numerous racing incidents, safety car phases and a temporary race interruption. Several vehicles were damaged or taken out of competition due to technical defects, collisions or external factors. According to official information, all drivers involved were able to leave their vehicles independently or were medically examined without any serious injuries being reported.
