Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen recently completed a test day in a Ford Mustang from the Australian Supercars Championship. The Dutchman confirmed the test in a short social media post and was impressed by the driving experience of the powerful V8 touring car.

Verstappen, who has shown a keen interest in racing series outside of Formula 1 for years, has not ruled out the possibility of racing in the popular Australian series in the future. In particular, a possible start in the traditional 1000-kilometer race in Bathurst is a conceivable scenario.

The vehicle used is said to have been a current Gen3 Ford Mustang, which was built by Dick Johnson Racing and is currently in the USA. The car was taken over by Ford after extensive development and aerodynamic tests.

The test underlines Verstappen’s increasing involvement in international motorsport beyond Formula 1. In addition to his own GT program, he has already gained experience with GT3 cars and has expressed interest in renowned endurance races on several occasions.

Verstappen and his entourage have had a connection to the Supercars Championship for several years. Red Bull is involved as a sponsor of one of the most successful teams in the series, which will switch from Chevrolet to Ford for the 2026 season.

Further information on the test deployment is to be announced at an international presentation by Ford in mid-January.
