As already known, we would like to briefly point out the changes in this year’s motorsport calendar:
Geopolitical tensions cause massive disruptions in international motorsport: Formula 1 cancels two Grands Prix at short notice, the WEC has to postpone its season opener. The racing calendar is shaken.
Formula 1 draws consequences: Bahrain and Saudi Arabia canceled
Formula 1 is reacting to the tense security situation in the Middle East and is removing two races from the calendar. Both the Bahrain Grand Prix and the race in Saudi Arabia will not take place.
No replacement is currently planned. For teams and fans, this means an unplanned break in the spring and a further thinned-out racing calendar.
WEC affected: Qatar season opener postponed
The World Endurance Championship (WEC) has not been spared from the developments either. The planned start of the season in Qatar was postponed at short notice.
The new season opener is now the race in Imola. The Qatar race will be held later in the year, subject to further developments in the situation.
Effects on teams and planning
The last-minute changes pose major challenges for teams and organizers:
- Logistics must be replanned
- Test programs are adapted
- Seasonal strategies start to falter
Particularly critical: the postponement of key races in preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Uncertain situation remains the determining factor
How the calendars develop further depends largely on the geopolitical situation. Further adjustments cannot be ruled out.
For motorsport, this currently means one thing above all: maximum uncertainty combined with high organizational pressure.
