Home · Mick Schumacher to start full-time in the IndyCar Series in 2026

Mick Schumacher will contest a full IndyCar season for the first time in the 2026 season. The 26-year-old German racing driver has agreed a full-time program with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) and will drive the number 47 car for the team. The decision was made after a convincing test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit, where Schumacher performed strongly straight away and impressed the team both on the track and in the simulator.

Schumacher emphasizes that he is particularly attracted to the direct, competitive style of American motorsport. With experience from Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and the World Endurance Championship, he wants to contribute his expertise to the new environment and establish himself in the series in the long term.

RLL will line up with a trio of international drivers in 2026: Graham Rahal, Louis Foster and Mick Schumacher. Schumacher takes over the cockpit most recently occupied by Devlin DeFrancesco. He will be joined by Dennis Hauger and Caio Collet as further rookies in the field, meaning that the coming season promises to be an exciting clash of new young talents.

The 2026 IndyCar season comprises 17 races on 16 tracks, including six oval races and two new street circuits added to the calendar. As every year, the highlight will be the Indianapolis 500, which is steeped in tradition. Schumacher’s first oval test will be announced at a later date.

With his switch, Schumacher is taking an important step in his career and is taking on one of the most demanding and versatile formula series in the world.
