In VW CLASSIC erinnern sich zu dieser Gelegenheit seine Erfinder, Pfleger und Fahrer an seine Geburtsstunde im Jahr 1976. Dabei verweist die Zeitschrift unter anderem darauf, dass ihn seinerzeit \u201eeigentlich niemand haben wollte\u201c. Denn seine Entwicklung w\u00e4re einmal ohne offiziellen Auftrag von Volkswagen gestartet worden. Zum 40. Geburtstag des GTI hat VW CLASSIC den \u201eEinser GTI\u201c und seine drei Nachfolger gemeinsam auf eine B\u00fchne geholt \u2013 dazu vier Entscheider, die den GTI auf Touren brachten.
